Fishmeal Replacement with Hermetia illucens Meal in Aquafeeds: Effects on Zebrafish Growth Performances, Intestinal Morphometry, and Enzymology

چکیده

Fishmeal (FM) is still the most important protein source in aquafeeds. However, due to reduction of wild fish stocks used for FM production, its manufacturing it now unsustainable. Insect meal represents a valid alternative FM, low carbon footprint production and high nutritional value. The aim this study was investigate potentials replacing with black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) (HIM) aquafeeds, using zebrafish as animal model. Four diets were formulated increasing HIM/FM replacement rate (the control diet contained 20% FM). Mortality rates, growth performances, feed consumptions measured, intestine samples collected histological enzymatic analysis. After 49 days, all groups almost tripled their initial body weight (cumulative gain ranged between 143.9 155.2 mg), no statistically significant differences among treatments observed relation performances traits. Contrarily, trypsin, alkaline phosphatases, alpha amylase–glucoamylase activities significantly reduced when increased. In conclusion, HIM may represent an since adverse effects included up diet, even 100% FM.

Effects of Substitution of Fish Meal with Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) Larvae Meal, in Yellow Catfish

An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate effects of replacing fish meal (FM) with black soldier fly larvae meal (BSF) on growth performance, feed utilization, and plasma parameters, for juvenile yellow catfish, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were prepared substituting the FM protein with BSF protein in the following amounts: 0 (control group), 10% (BSF...

Influence of resources on Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) larval development.

Arthropod development can be used to determine the time of colonization of human remains to infer a minimum postmortem interval. The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens L. (Diptera. Stratiomyidae) is native to North America and is unique in that its larvae can consume a wide range of decomposing organic material, including carrion. Larvae development was observed on six resources: control poul...

Substrate effects on pupation and adult emergence of Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae).

Black soldier flies, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), are of particular interest for their applications in waste management. Feeding on decaying organic waste, black soldier flies successfully reduce manure in confined animal feeding operations of poultry, swine, and cattle. To optimize waste conversion in confined animal feeding operations and landfill facilities, it is imperat...

Effects of different levels of locust meal (Schistocerca gregaria) replacement on growth function, survival, biochemical composition and intestinal digestive enzymes of rainbow trout fingerling (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

The present study was conducted to evaluate of different levels of locust meal (Schistocerca gregaria) on growth function, survival, biochemical composition and intestinal digestive enzymes in rainbow trout fingerling. Four experimental diets with different replacement levels of 0 (control treatment), 15 (SG15), 30 (SG30) and 60% (SG60) of fish meal with locust meal were formulated with equal p...

Intra-Puparial Development of the Black Soldier-fly, Hermetia illucens

The intra-puparial development of the black soldier-fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), was studied based on 125 pupae under controlled conditions in laboratory. The 6(th) instar larvae were reared until they stopped feeding, and the prepupae were separated according to the reduction in larval length and degree of pigmentation and sclerotization of the cuticle. The pupal stage...
